NDS versions of Angband and variants
Caveat emptor: This is very much a "work in progress".
Vanilla Angband 3.1.0beta
Downloads and links
Installation
- Copy angband.nds to your card
- Copy angband directory to the ROOT DIRECTORY of your card
- Note: the savefile for Competition 63 is installed by default :-)
- angband.nds may need to be DLDI patched if your card does not support autopatching...
Notes on upgrading
- Delete your angband/nds/BUTTONS.DEF file to get some
new button features! [NB: button configuration is still in
flux]

Notes
- Interface design is still work-in-progress and subject to change at any point (assuming I think of something smarter to do)
- Virtual keyboard use is still often required to play, hence the quick toggle with the L key
- B-key key defaults to smart attack / search combo; makes lack of keyboard a lot less painful
- Quick-start configure: press L+R; tap R; examine bindings; L+R to exit
- The screen setup is designed for Term-1 displaying messages, and Term-2 displaying player (compact); they are not set by default due to some bug in option parsing (although I've tweaked the competition savefile to set these up)
- Automatic game buttons aren't coming and going properly just yet
- Many screens have not yet been reformatted for narrow screens
- CycloDS users: rename angband.nds to
autoload.nds to have it boot into
Angband automatically (like I do!)
Things done recently
- Added a column of user buttons down left-side of screen, visible after
holding shift for 1 second (NB: see Upgrading hint above)
- Fixed stack overflows at end of game; you can now get info,
dump record etc (Arrghh, my comp character got lost!)
- Character creation buttons no longer stay around (buttons still buggy,
though)
- Fixed "loopy" mouse movement bug; character now moves directly to
target location (modulo inherent bugs in current path-finding code)
Things being worked on
- New pathfinding algorithm (A*)
- Recent command history buttons (repeat older commands, drag to make a button from a history command etc...)
- Automatic game (red) buttons a la O/FA
- Improve editing/creation/deletion of user (blue) buttons
Known issues
- Doesn't power down when game quits
- Lots of line-too-long issues
- Notably: character creation information off-screen (erk!)
- Spurious text button in status area [bugger!]
First Age Angband
This is where it all started.
Nick 'The Badger' McConnell started me on this project by
badgering me mercilessly to help out with porting FA to the DS.
(Okay, actually he just mentioned to me one day at work that he'd
got it compiled and running on a DS).
